The wife came back from Tesco's yesterday with a bunch of wine she'd got on offer. One, Howcroft Vinyard Limestone Coast Shiraz is truly excellent and currently being offered at half-price. If, like me, you're a red wine drinker, here is an offer not to be missed. Get a few, sit back and enjoy.

Ghost Koi

I was thinking about my pond while I watched the Grand Prix this morning and the conversation I had yesterday with eponymous. I had a nagging doubt regarding my statement that I didn’t have any images of my Ghost Koi so I’ve just done a trawl through my database (no pun intended!). Low and behold I do have a picture of a couple of my fish and here it is:
Taken quite some while ago, the Koi have grown considerably since. I have six in my pond along with the Green Tench, Blue Orfe, Samsara Comets, Shubunkins and Goldfish.
The bane of my life recently has been a persistent heron (nicknamed Heinkel). I really don’t want to net the pond off because it’s used by lots of other birds as a watering hole come bath and is home to a family of frogs. We also have a hedgehog that visits on occasions and I’m afraid that rigging netting will deter these most welcome creatures from visiting. Thus far I’m actually winning my battle with Heinkel, but I fear it’s only a matter of time before the bugger gets his beak into something!

What a disappointment for Jenson Button in the Australian Grand Prix at Albert Park, Melbourne this morning. As though it weren’t bad enough to have been well beaten into fifth place by his rivals, the damn car issues sheets of flame and gives up the ghost within sight of the finish line meaning Button didn’t actually complete the race: final classification 10th. Poor old Jense. One of these days it’ll all come right for him and he’ll end up on top of that podium with his elusive first grand prix win.
