It's a sad reflection on society I'm afraid. ![]()
Pity we couldn't introduce these fine citizens to my brother-inlaw and his mates in 3 Para just back from Afghanistan. Perhaps give them 10 minutes together locked in a quiet little hangar somewhere to discuss the artistic merit of their efforts with a spray can. The lads in the red berets might have to polish their boots again afterwards, but I'd be willing to get the rag and wax out myself if need be. And I'd stand them all a beer too...
But perhaps I'm just pandering to my baser instincts and dragging myself down to their level. Is that what it takes?....

Pander on sir: you've echoed my thoughts. A couple of hours in a dark place wtih a bunch of steely eyed killers.... scary!
If the actual perpetrators can be found, they should be made to clean it off in front of a large public audience that includes representatives of their peer group. They should then be made to apologise to all the people whose relatives and friends are listed on the memorial.
Such defilers are normally cowards, so a large SILENTLY hostile crowd of citizens standing around them with arms crossed, should be sufficient to enforce obedience.
Punishment or enforcement by violence only leads to more violence. As you say, it's easy to be mislead by one's immediate emotional responses.
Hermit (the peacemaker)
That might just work Munzly, if the offenders can be brought to justice. You're spot on when you say their kind are often cowards. Cowards, sneaks and losers.
This picture makes me feel very angry and disgusted, especially for the dead soldiers and their relatives. I agree with Munzly's ideas but can understand Grumpy Bloke's reaction.
Doesn't it just make you proud to be a part of society?
It was a hateful thing to have done. At one time they'd have been horse-whipped when caught. While that may not be the way forward, it might deter others.
The sad things is as well, Worthing is a large town with a high percentage population over the retirment age.
What anyone would get out of doing something like that is beyond me. There cannot be any pleasure as they are cowards and would never admit to being the culprits.
I think Grumpy has the right idea....
they may not be so quick to do anything like it again.
I'm tempted to suggest the culprits were just kids with nothing better to do, but who knows. One thing I do know is, the more I thought about it the angrier I got. I can hear my father's voice deep in the recesses of my brain urging us to rediscover the birch...
Morons. They're everywhere!
They certainly are, sadly.
