As some of you already know I spent most of yesterday in hospital.
I’d been waiting months and months to get a minor problem sorted out. My GP had referred me to a specialist back last year and eventually I got an appointment. The wait seemed interminable.
In March I finally got to see the specialist, who agreed an operation was in order and put me on his list.
More waiting time ensued before my hospital appointment finally came through, but eventually the letter dropped through my mailbox and I had something to look forward to.
Yesterday was the day and as surgery was on the cards I had to fast; good job I was able to enjoy a nice Sunday roast!
Admittance was 7:30am and as the hospital is about an hour’s drive away I had to be up and about early; I got to meet my surgeon around 8:00am.
By 1:00pm the surgery was over and I was back o the ward; just in time for lunch! Well to be honest I didn’t much fancy food, but it was nice to get a drink at last.
As the afternoon progressed and my recovery was well on schedule I was told I’d be able to go home that day; I arrived back here before 8:00pm so was well chuffed.
So what’s the point of this blog entry? Simply to say that despite the long wait for things to get going my experience yesterday was an exceptionally good one.
Staff on the ward were excellent.
The theatre staff were excellent.
The care plan for my day was excellent.
The ward was clean.
The equipment new.
The standards of cleanliness brilliant.
Was the hospital new? No, in fact it was really rather old, but the staff really cared about what they were doing and the ward I was on had obviously been refurbished.
The whole experience was a real advert for the NHS and I am extremely grateful for everyone’s efforts; thank you to everyone involved.
