Some of you may already have heard of Scott Meyer and his wonderful web, Basic Instructions, but wether you have or not I urge to go and visit. The link was emailed to me and I have to say, I love it!

Turned off by Stonehenge?

I was reading the BBC News web earlier and saw to my amazement that Britons have voted Stonehenge the most disappointing attraction in the UK.

It makes me wonder what kind of person it takes to say Stonehenge is, “just a pile of old rubble”; they obviously have no soul!

Okay, I’m inclined to agree the way visitors are managed attractions like Stonehenge is not always good and the experience can be somewhat ‘tacky’ but you know that’s not the fault of the monument...
Take away the tourist trap, the floodlights and the lasers and return the stones to their original locations and what are left with? A less rich history that’s what!

Ditch the glitz by all means, but don’t knock the stones. The people who planned and erected Stonehenge did so for a purpose and whether we appreciate it or not, Stonehenge still serves that purpose. To my mind, that alone makes it one of the most amazing attractions in the world and let’s be fair that’s only one of the many wonders of The Stones.
