  • Not a Talking Head

    We have some odd statues in my home town, Newport. Odd or not though there are some I like and some I don’t; this one I quite like.

    The statue is made of metal slats and the outline forms a head; what do you think? Do you like it or not?

    head

    I apologise for the less than perfect image; the glass behind it produces far too much reflection I'm afraid.

  • Sea-Fever

    My friend La Spice mentioned John Masefield's poem Sea-Fever earlier; for anyone who doesn't know it, here it is. :)

    "Sea-Fever"

    I must down to the seas again, to the lonely sea and the sky,
    And all I ask is a tall ship and a star to steer her by,
    And the wheel's kick and the wind's song and the white sail's shaking,
    And a grey mist on the sea's face, and a grey dawn breaking.

    I must down to the seas again, for the call of the running tide
    Is a wild call and a clear call that may not be denied;
    And all I ask is a windy day with the white clouds flying,
    And the flung spray and the blown spume, and the sea-gulls crying.

    I must down to the seas again, to the vagrant gypsy life,
    To the gull's way and the whale's way where the wind's like a whetted knife;
    And all I ask is a merry yarn from a laughing fellow-rover
    And quiet sleep and a sweet dream when the long trick's over.

    By John Masefield (1878-1967).
    (English Poet Laureate, 1930-1967.)

    A wonderful poem; thanks for reminding about it Spicy :yes:

  • Objects on a beach

    You know, I d love to be beside the seaside. Not for the donkey rides or the funfair, although those are fun too. For me though it's the quiet aspect of the coast that appeals to me. The empty beaches, the loneliness. Not complete isolation you understand because I long to share my quiet beach moments with a soul mate; someone to share my solitude and enjoy the things I find interesting...

    In lieu of that person I thought I'd share a few photographs with you fine folk out there in Blogland; I hope you enjoy them.

    These were taken on Rhossili beach in Wales. Rhossili can be a very busy place, but if you time your visit right it also be a wonderfully quiet place, just perfect for a little reflective soul-searching.

    Clicking any of the above will open a larger version of the image in a pop-up window.

  • A case of insanity

    I often try to view things from different angles to get a fuller appreciation of what they are; some may say I look at things in slightly odd ways. Either way I get inspiration from the objects around me.

    Take this pear for example. The little guy was just starting his life and was a dirty brown/green colour, but in the early morning sunshine he was tinged with a hint of red.

    pear-bud

    I photographed the little chap with the intention of ‘tweaking’ the image back in May and have only just around to it. Just filtering in a touch of colour enhanced the reds to give the pearlet a whole new personality; he has been transformed from a dull specimen into something far more vibrant and outgoing.

    What do you think? Does the little chap look happy, or am I completely off my rocker?

  • Grey Sunday

    It's a miserable grey start to the day here and since the barometrc pressure has dropped overnight I suspect we're in for another wet day; I'd planned a bit of a walk if the weather had been kind... :**:

    On a positive note, I don't HAVE to go anywhere or do anything, so I could spend much of the day blogging. :yes:

    Alternatively I could simply go back to bed and try to sleep... :zz:

    Whatever you're doing today, I hope you have a lovely day. :wave:
