What’s so interesting about this old lamp post then?

Well I’m not sure what the lady here was looking at, but I can tell you the lamp post has a ladder on one side, presumably so the lantern could be lit back in the days of oil or gas, and a hand-cranked worm-drive on the other to rotate the actual lantern itself.

So there we have it; would you stand and stare?

Any duck fanciers out there? Or at least someone with a little knowledge about duck species...

Apologies for the less than perfect image; the bird was rather a long way away...

There’s still a lot of water to be found in Gloucestershire, despite the flooding having finally subsided (mostly at least).

This lot was cascading over a small weir at Lydney and in the sunshine looked too good to miss for a man with a camera.

There are a number of small islands in the Severn Estuary, some are inhabited and others not, but few can be as small as this one and still been lived on.

I’d love to tell you the name of this small patch of land, but I’m afraid I can’t. it is a true island though since you can’t walk to it even at the lowest of tides.

Obviously the island can’t support life, but the stone-built hut beside the marker tower once had two rooms and was ‘habitable’.

I like my own company, but somehow even I think I’d draw the line at wanting to live here...
