    I was just thinking that, looking at the sky. I remember playing on the pier at Southend - great places for kids.

      Some of the bigger piers are complete entertainment centres aren't they? I've never visited Southend, but do recall seeing images of a large pier there.

  I was a bit surprised to see fishing is banned off the pier dring the summer...

    I think there were always areas of the pier where it was banned but I don't remember it being banned altogether in summer. On wet cloudy days the fisherfolk used to be the only ones there!

      It would have made sense to me to allow people to fish even if only on one side, or at the very end. It's not as though the pier is exactly overcrowded...
