Two sides of the estuary foreshore

I posted an image of the Severn Estuary foreshore yesterday; all grey and muddy and bleak looking... and I got to thinking that it might create the wrong impression because if you take the time to look the foreshore is far from grey.

The alluvial mud coats everything it touches, but in those places where the tide is strong or the silt hasn't reached the 'beach' is filled with magical colours...

So there you have it, the second side of the estuary foreshore.

Hmmm.... that might make quite nice desktop-wallpaper now I come to think of it... :yes:

I remember from my childhood in Gloucestershire, there were many stories of people walking out on the mud and sand, then getting cut off and drowning when the tide came in.

  That's right, yes. The tide rushes in and anyone caught out on the mud flats needs to fleet of foot. It's not easy trying to run through such cloying gunk, especially when the mud can be many feet thick.

  Interesting idea; I have photographed the bore coming up the channel, but never shot a sequence... perhaps I'll give that a go.

It reminds me of those semi-precious stones they sell in gift shops...I wonder if you could sell them to tourists nearby!

Extraordinary to see these two shots of the same place...the first does make it look dark and drear, but the close up is beautiful...very interesting take...big hugs...

  Thanks Jen. Yeah there's lots of colour if you look for it, but I think people mostly notice the mud and ignore the rest.
