Anyone fancying a good giggle this morning might want to have a look at this article on the BBC News web.
Now don't get me wrong I'm all in favour of everyone in the UK having an ultra-fast Internet connection, but since BT is unable to cope nationally with Internet access speeds of up to 8Mbps then the chance of us all having access at 100Mbps is just so much pie in the sky! 
Ultra-fast Internet for the UK? Don't make me laugh!

Pro Sounds about right to me. My local exchange isn't capable of passing speeds greater than 2Mbps, but the speeds often drop well below that.

Mine says up to 8Mbhps but it's never been more than just over 6, and that very rarely!

Pro My connection is only 2Mbps, but I only ever get that in the middle of the night...

Mine's 5.4Mbhps but I have noticed that on a rainy day the connection - well it's no connection at all!

Pro You're not with BT are you? I know a few people who have trouble with their BT connection when it rains...

Nah, actually I'm with Sky as I have the phone and TV package with them too, it's cheaper that way.

Pro I've heard some very mixed reports about the Sky service, but there's no doubting it makes good sense financially.

I'm with BT Broadband. My connexion is rated at 8Mbps but has never exceeded 5.5Mbps and sometimes dips below 1Mbps. This is normally adequate for my surfing though.
