Chepstow Castle

Like many other castles, Chepstow was faced when it was built; coated with a white plaster. You can see in the image below that traces of the facing still remain.
The point is, the castle stands atop the cliff-banks of the River Wye... can you imagine how spectacular it must have looked all white and crisp and powerful in the morning sunlight...
