It's not a scene from a Hitchcock movie you know...
The seagulls are just much closer to the camera.

Heck, he's brave...one big wave and he could be washed off it...big hugs...

It's possible I guess, although I think it'd have to be a pretty big wave.

I really thought you'd been playing again Usky! How come the sand doesn't liquefy? You can't walk out too far (I'm told) at W-S-M, so how can he be surrounded by water and yet not sink in the wet sand? I knew someone who as a child found himself in quick-sand, he said it stank, presumably from all the rotting stuff in it. He got out though, obviously. Not really relevant, but just remembered and thought I might prattle on for a minute, don't meet many folk who've been in quicksand, do we even have quicksand, in fact, what is quicksand? prattle prattle prattle. I think I'll go and heat up yesterday's stir-fry...

I sank in a peat bog on one occasion... quite like quick-sand in certain respects I'd guess... not at all a nice experience.
The photograph is deceptive; the chap's not really surrounded by water at all... it just appears as though he is. The sand bar he's walking on is quite substantial.
Enjoy your lunch.

I'm sure sinking in a peat bog is not a pleasant experience, was it frightening?
How easy was it to get out and how far in were you? I think that must be a horrid way to go, although, why wouldn't a 'butterfly-stroke' action work? I can't get my head around why a body wouldn't either float or be able to use the density as a means to 'push off' from. I think they're intriguing. Maybe one day I'll bother to find out about them, when I get away from blogging
*sniggers* what's the odds there then?-

BTW. I did suspect that was the case re. the substantial sandbar, but for the life of me I cannot see any sand, is it all just under the water or have you really caught it just perfectly? It is a very clever pic IMHO. I also like the water in the bottom half of the pic, I like the movement and 'feel' of it, I can imagine patting it (or am I alone in patting the sea? I like that with sea, the density you feel when you pat it feels like you could possibly walk on it) Did you take that from a small boat?

The sand is wet and appears to be covered in water. I found that by crouching down you could make it appear not to be there at all.

This is the place where the River Eweny flows into the sea, so in fact I was stood in the river.

It would have been a much more frightening experience had I been alone... sank straight up to the crotch, then trying to move sank further to above the waist... allowed my mates to pull me out then... when they'd stopped falling around wetting themselves... the smell was horrendous... and it was a hot day too...

Yhew. But thank god for mates eh? It may have been more than frightening had they not been there by the sound of that. Horrible way to go.

There's a lesson here of course... never go stomping off over open moorland alone.

A clever photo. Mind you, it looks like those giant seagulls are about to attack the man!
