There are a surprising number of these about - but most people pass them by without another thought. Interestingly, in Wenglish a 'tump' means a pile of something, as in 'I've just trod in a tump of ..........

La-Spice's comment reminded me of a archaeologist I knew who always called them "Mob and Belly" - Nob with big belly inside. Mob with empty bellies outside!

Your title made me smile - when I was in my teens I was out walking with my boyfriend, he got his words mixed up and said "look at that stree tump" instead of tree stump. I teased him about it for years afterwards.
