Bye-bye Wombles...

Wimbledon fortnight is almost over (sighs with relief) which is just fine with me... not being a tennis fan I find it about as enthralling as the Euro trash wendy-ball stuff we've had to endure these past weeks... :yawn:

Still Wombledon's not all bad is it... there's always the strawberries!

Of course I'm not a fan of the forced, over-cultivated, all year round strawberries we find in supermarkets either... XX(

But these little guys have a truly superb flavour and there are plenty about for the likes of me to scavenge... :yes:

So strawberries grow wild over there? Jeez, we think we are lucky if we can get them to grow ourselves.

  Yes indeed. Compared to the cultivated ones they're tiny, but the flavour is really intense and I love them.

    We had some wild strawberries, may still have I'll have to look, in the garden, but I never ate them cos I didn't think they were edible! What a waste, I hope they're still growing aaargh! Just remembered, some-one strimmed there last week, oh no!!!

        Been out there this morning and there's no sign of a plant at all, it'd been coming up year after year, and now nothing!
        
        I wonder if maybe the plant had died and I hadn't noticed, what a shame. Anyroad Usky, now I know, I'll eat it, if ever I come across one again, although I assume they're not too abundant as I've not heard anyone else speak of them.

        I remember there being loads of them along the hedgerows when I was a kid, but you don't see so many around nowadays. A great shame really.

Yum, reminds me of a holiday when I got lost walking, but found those delicious wild strawberries by the road, which made it seem an adventure not a mishap!

And I don't bother with Wimbledon either. Too much grunting and too little volley for me these days.
