No, Goldfinch was what I was after, the common name rather than the Latin one. They seem to have much more red on the face than the ones in the old bird books, but my Mum thinks it may vary with the time of year. I now see the picture has a caption "Goldfinch". I may be losing my marbles faster than the Acropolis, but perhaps you just added it. No need to answer, I'm wandering off to scrub Mrs Walrus's back....

Not sure about the colour variation through the year, though I suspect the male of the species may be a bit brighter in the spring.

That caption was always there Elgin.
