Geordie band Lindisfarne may have made large amounts of cash out of a foggy Tyne, but for some reason whenever I'm in that neck of the woods the sun shines... or it pours with rain... or snows... but I've never seen fog on the Tyne.

What exactly is a Tyne? I see a lot of cities/towns are called something on the Tyne. Newcastle on the Tyne for example.

Pro In this case the Tyne is the River Tyne Mama, hence the name for the local city Newcastle upon Tyne.
In English a tyne, or tine, is also a sharp, projecting point or prong, as of an antler or fork. In this case the more usual spelling is tine.
