It's all about the ability to moult isn't it? But it still stuns me when Nature does her thing and those little ugly ducklings turn into fully fledged swans.

I have never seen Swans before they had moulted
for their more well-kknown feathered splendour.
I heard it can take up to three years for larger birds to moult completely.
I also hear that Swans can break a man's arm with it's wing!
They look so peaceful and elegant.
They can be so strong and suddenly aggressive.
A very lovely photograph. Thanks Uski: JW xx-

An adult swan really can do a lot of damage... and not just with its wing!
Yeah swans take two to three years to mature, but generally speaking most are moulting to white in their second year.
No swans in Texas I assume?-

I vaguely remember there being Black Swans over on the other side of Texas, near Oklahoma. But I can't verify that. JW xx

I wouldn't argue with that... seem to recall hearing something about them myself, but no personal evidence to share.

They say that swans can be quite vicious. So pretty to look at but I guess you don't want to mess with them. Do they stay all winter???

Swans are powerful birds and have been known to some serious damage, but by and large they just want to be left alone to get on with their lives.

We do get some migrants here who fly in and out Jake, generally speaking though our swans are native so always around.

This is something I pondered while walking by the canal last week...how do their feathers just change colour? It's absolutely insane. And yeah nature is definitely wonderful...
