What attracted me originally was the colour variation of the wheat (barley, or whatever). But then looking again I decided to pull back a bit and include the hedge...-

We don't have those vast prairies of course and to be fair this was really quite a small field, but the angle and backdrop gives it the appearance of space... glad it worked for you

Most of the local farmers have some arable land, but the primary industry here seems to be grazing so green is the predominant colour. It's good to see some variation now and again.

My brother does a bit of painting and he likes these wide flat landscapes, where all the detail is concentrated in a narrow band in the middle, with wide sky and wide field or beach top and bottom...

This is part of the Severn floodplain so a bit unusual for Wales; even out flatter parts tend to have hills. I've grown to appreciate these flatter landscapes though and can see why your brother would want to paint them.
